On May 11th, Littleton’s Hudson Gardens will be transformed into an outdoor play area with fun for all ages when it hosts the 22nd annual AirLife Memorial 5K/10K Run/Walk & EMS Celebration. As participants walk along the garden pathways, they’ll be treated to a display of shiny emergency response vehicles ranging from ambulances to fire trucks to police cars. Overhead, they’ll hear the whir of helicopter blades as an AirLife Denver helicopter lands and takes off from the grassy fields. And all around them, they’ll see smiling faces as runners and walkers finish the course that winds along the South Platte River, teams cheer each other on in the volleyball tournament and kids enjoy the bouncy houses, slides and games in the kids play area.
This is the 22nd year of the AirLife Memorial 5K/10K Run/Walk & EMS Celebration, which benefits Friends of AirLife. The nonprofit organization is committed to advancing EMS and air medical safety initiatives, providing free EMS education and scholarships and offering charitable assistance to families of EMS professionals who have passed away in the line of duty. During the annual Memorial event, the community can support and honor our EMS heroes and also interact with first responders.
In addition to the 5K and 10K Run/Walk, which are Bolder Boulder qualifying events, the AirLife Memorial & EMS Celebration features fun family activities including:
• A free kids fun run
• An emergency vehicle muster with the chance to tour the vehicles
• Volleyball Challenge tournament
• A Kids Fun Zone with bouncy houses, a giant slide, trampoline and games
• An interactive Expo
• Presentation of the Jim Ulrich Silver Falcon Award for outstanding dedication to the EMS profession
