Oak Grove
There are eight varieties of Oak at The Hudson Gardens, most of which are growing in the Oak Grove which follows the eastern bank of the pond. This showcase collection includes species from both the red and white oak families, and many of the specimens are commemorative tribute trees.
Members of the Oak family are distinguishable primarily by their unique leaf
shape and their fruit, which comes in the form of acorns. All of the oak trees
growing at The Hudson Gardens have been planted since 1996 and are therefore
relatively young, with few, if any, acorns. Once mature, the Oak tree collection
will be stately, with the trees reaching heights of up to 100 feet. | |
