Honeybee Hive Management Systems Learn why “bee space” is important and how to choose a management system that
will maximize the efficiency of your hive. Hudson Gardens’ resident Bee Guardian
Bob Shiflet leads this session, which covers the various hive management systems
that are available for housing and maintaining your colonies. You’ll glean
insight as to how the different systems impact seasonal management (including
honey extraction and re-queening), and the importance of selecting compatible
equipment. An emphasis is placed on hive management systems that are compatible
with “natural” beekeeping methods, which are minimally invasive, chemical free,
and non-toxic.

Honeybee Hive Inspection
Learn a systematic approach to opening and inspecting your hives to gain maximum
efficiency with minimal upset to your honeybees. You’ll gain key insight on how
to open your hives, make assessments about the conditions inside the hive,
troubleshoot problems, and record your observations. Taught by resident Bee
Guardian Bob Shiflet, the discussion will also outline the impact of weather on
hive conditions and how it affects inspections.

Bee Yard Discovery
Apply your knowledge about beekeeping with a visit to The Hudson Gardens apiary!
Join resident Bee Guardian Bob Shiflet on an exploration of a working beehive to
explore the different conditions and elements within a hive. You’ll view various
stages of the honeybees within their life cycles, observe the intricacies of
honeycomb, brood, propolis, and honey production, and much more!
Note: participation in this session entails the risk of bee stings. All
participants much bring an EpiPen or antihistamine, and wear protective
clothing.

Container Planting Workshop
Tired of the same old annual plantings? Discover new ways to take your container
gardens to the next level by joining Annie Huston, co-founder of Columbine
Design, for this hands-on experience creating gorgeous flower combinations that
will thrive all summer long. Please bring a garden pot (18” in diameter or
smaller), soil, and gardening gloves – we’ll provide the plants (for both sun
and shade), accessories, and expertise. You’ll leave this workshop with a
beautiful container garden and a new perspective on planting annuals!

Landscape Photography

Learn how to capture the special moments in the garden when it’s at its
peak, and how to make special moments of the garden when it’s not! Led by
accomplished landscape photographer and author David Winger, this
two-session workshop will explore digital terminology, composition,
lighting, and post-photograph processing for optimal landscape
photographs. You’ll get the opportunity to apply your knowledge
immediately by taking photos in The Gardens with guidance from the
instructor, followed by a review of your photographs. Please bring a
camera.

Ambrosia
Sunday, June 5
The founding members of Ambrosia decided on the
moniker to represent a vision of their music: all shades, textures, colors and
styles. Ambrosia was best known for their soulful soft-rock radio hits
spanning the late '70s and early '80s, including You’re the Only Woman
and How Much I Feel. One of the biggest honors bestowed upon the band was
Quincy Jones’ declaration that their hit Biggest Part of Me was one of

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Sunday, June 19
With a career that spans five decades, the Nitty Gritty
Dirt Band has gone from a hippie jug-band to pioneers of country rock,
setting influences that are recognized yet today. From their 35 albums came 22
country hits, three pop hits, as well as Grammy and CMA awards. The group was
also honored in 2006, when their landmark album, Will The Circle Be Unbroken,
was included in the National Recording Registry as one of 50 recordings to be
honored and preserved by the Library of Congress.

covers the history and seven principles of xeriscape, followed by an
interactive walk through The Hudson Gardens to observe and identify plants
with low-to moderate water-requirements.

The Guess Who - Sunday, July 3
Very few rock music acts achieving "Superstar" status in the
‘60s and ‘70s continue to tour as successfully today as The Guess Who.
Their biggest hit, American Woman, reached #1 on the Billboard charts in
1970, and is widely recognized as one of the most applauded classic rock cuts of
all time. Although they paved the way for the hard rock acts of the ‘70s with
this mega-hit and No Time, The Guess Who is also noted for elegant
pop-soul ballads like These Eyes, Laughing and Undun.

Poco - Monday, July 4
One of the first and longest-lasting groups of the
country-rock genre, Poco was born from the remaining elements of Buffalo
Springfield, when co-founders Neil Young and Stephen Stills left the group in
the spring of 1968. The band’s original name stems from a comic strip by Walt
Kelly. Their hits include Good Feeling to Know, Crazy Love, Heart of the
Night and Call It Love.

Livingston Seagull himself, Super Diamond replicates everything from the

classic songs such as Cherry, Cherry. Surreal Neil is not a Neil Diamond
impersonator. And Super Diamond is not a cover band. Super Diamond

Sister Hazel - Sunday, July 24
Their name comes from Sister Hazel Williams, a local nun who
ran who ran Sister Hazel's Rescue Mission in Gainesville, Florida during the
1970s and early ‘80s. The facility gave those who were down on their luck a safe
place to stay warm, eat and regroup, regardless of age, race or beliefs; it is
in this spirit of unconditional concern for all beings that the band chose to
use her name. With six Top-30 hits to their credit, including Your Winter,
Change Your Mind and All for You, Sister Hazel’s
Southern-style rock sound is characterized by highly melodic tunes and
optimistic lyrics with a decidedly fresh, invigorating style.

Frampton Comes Alive 35th Anniversary Tour - Sunday,

One of the most celebrated artists and guitarists in rock
history, Peter Frampton embarks on a world tour in 2011, celebrating the
35th anniversary of his multi-platinum-selling live album, Frampton Comes
Alive! The legendary album will be performed in its entirety on The Hudson
Gardens’ stage, featuring iconic classics such as Do You Feel Like We Do?,
Baby, I Love Your Way and Show Me the Way.

13th Annual Parade of Ponds

Tour-goers can experience a visit to more than three dozen ponds
throughout the Denver metro area at the 13th Annual Parade of Ponds of
Saturday August 27 and Sunday, August 28. This two-day tour takes place
from 9 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, and 11 AM to 5 PM on Sunday.
Tickets are $15 each (children 15 and under are free); buy your tickets

Saturday, and 9 AM to 3 PM on Sundays.

Honey Harvest & Products of the Hive
Learn all of the “ins” and “outs” of moving honey from the hive to the honey
jar. This course will explore the various honeycomb setups and the common
techniques and tools used for extracting, bottling, and storing honey. Bee
Guardian Bob Shiflet leads this how-to session, which will include information
on extracting and using other products of the hive such as wax, pollen, and
propolis. The session will conclude with a refresher on closing out the
beekeeping season and preparing hives for winter.

Honeybee Pests and Diseases
What hive threats do beekeepers need to worry about in Colorado? Join Bee
Guardian Bob Shiflet to learn the answer to this and all of the other
questions that may be “bugging” you about honeybee pests. Participants in
this course will discover how to identify symptoms and provide treatment
for the common parasites, mites, and diseases that affect Colorado
honeybees. This session will include a discussion of the implications of
these pests, and how beekeepers can reduce their impact using basic hive
inspection techniques.

Vertical Horizon

Top-40 charts. The song was the most played single in the year 2000. In addition

The Hudson Gardens and Columbine Design will lead this workshop, exploring the
latest trends in design and techniques that you can use to make your festive
holiday decorations distinctive and elegant without breaking the bank. You’ll
get firsthand experience using simple materials—often the remnants of last
summer’s garden such as dried grasses, flowers, evergreens, and berries—to
create festive decorations for the interior or exterior of your home. Whether it
be a centerpiece, “green” snowflake, decoration for your home, or hostess gift,
you’ll walk away with a beautiful piece of décor and countless ideas for future
