Aquatic Plant Holding Pond The Aquatic Plant Holding Pond, as its name suggests, serves as a transition bed for hardy water plants. Many of the plants featured here were grown from seed or tubers in a greenhouse, and were then transferred to Hudson Gardens after reaching sufficient maturity and hardiness. With a higher water temperature and smaller size than an outdoor display bed, the propagation pond allows aquatic plants to have an easier and less stressful transition from the greenhouse to the display bed. All plants growing in the water propagation pond will at some point be transferred to other water displays throughout The Gardens, including the ponds, Water Garden, and Rose Garden. Water remains in the propagation pond year-round. The pond has artificial lining and natural debris collects along its bottom, which is ideal for marginal plants growing in its shallow waters and in the moist soil around its perimeter. This propagation pond and all of the water display beds at Hudson Gardens are graciously maintained by volunteers from the Colorado Water Garden Society.
